Modern Retro Wedding Inspiration

Some days remind you why you fell in love with photography in the first place. Film Forward Content Day was exactly that. Hosted alongside The FIND Lab, it wasn't just a chance to create beautiful images; it was an opportunity to slow down, refine my craft, and reconnect with the art of analog photography one more time. More than anything, the experience reminded me of the importance of continuing to grow as a photographer and staying curious about the way I approach each wedding day.

Why I Invest in Education

Even though I am always striving to grow, I believe the best wedding photographers never stop learning. Every couple deserves someone who is continually refining their eye, understanding light more deeply, and creating images that feel timeless rather than trendy. That's exactly why I invested in attending Film Forward. Experiences like this allow me to step away from the pace of everyday work, explore new creative perspectives, and bring those lessons back into the way I photograph my couples. One of the biggest things I continue to value through this process is the intentional approach that film photography encourages.

The Beauty of Film-Inspired Wedding Photography

One of the things I love most about film-inspired photography is the intention behind every frame. Unlike digital, where it's easy to take thousands of photos, film reminds us that every image has value. It encourages me to slow down, observe, and capture moments with purpose. After years of working in the digital world, I have found a balance between both approaches. Whether I am photographing on film or digital, I carry that same mindset into every wedding: being thoughtful about what I capture and focusing on the moments that truly matter.

In a world filled with endless digital content and AI-generated images, I find something incredibly honest about this approach. My goal isn't to deliver thousands of photos—it is to create a meaningful collection of images that brings you back to how your wedding day truly felt. That same idea of intention is also what inspired the editorial direction behind this modern retro wedding.

Modern Retro Wedding Inspiration

A modern retro wedding is about more than recreating the past; it is about bringing timeless style into the present. Bold, saturated colors, layered textures, statement florals, and thoughtfully curated tablescapes all come together to create a celebration that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Every detail, from the stationery to the fashion, tells part of the story and reflects the couple's personality rather than simply following a trend. The goal is not to copy a specific era, but to take inspiration from the past and create something that feels personal and current. The design choices, the movement, and the emotions captured throughout the editorial all work together to show how thoughtful details can shape the overall feeling of a wedding day.

What Couples Can Take Away

While this wasn't a real wedding day, everything about this editorial reflects the kind of celebrations I love documenting: intentional design, genuine connection, and couples who want photographs that feel artistic while remaining true to the moment.

For couples planning their wedding, inspiration is a starting point. The most meaningful celebrations are not the ones that perfectly recreate an image they have seen online, but the ones that include details, choices, and experiences that feel authentic to them.

This is also why continuing to learn and evolve as a photographer matters. The more I refine my craft, the better I can serve couples who want their wedding photographs to feel personal, thoughtful, and timeless.

Why Film Forward Matters to My Couples

Experiences like Film Forward make me a stronger photographer on your wedding day. They push me creatively and help me make stronger decisions when capturing real moments, details, and emotions throughout the day. The value of investing in education is not only about learning new techniques; it is about continuing to develop the way I see, photograph, and tell each couple's story.

If You're Planning…

If you're planning a wedding that values thoughtful design, genuine moments, and timeless photography, I'd love to hear your story.
